The City of South El Monte's residential trash hauler provider is Athens Services.

Saturday 7:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Athens Services does not operate on the following holidays:
- New Year's Day (January 1st)
- Memorial Day (Last Monday of May)
- Independence Day (July 4th )
- Labor Day (First Monday of September)
- Thanksgiving Day (FourthThursday of November)
- Christmas Day (December 25th )
If your trash collection day falls on or after a holiday during the week, your pick-up day will be delayed by one day.
To ensure your trash is collected, please make sure your containers are placed at the curbside by 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.Your trash containers must be within the weight of 50 lbs.
Once your household trash has been collected, please remove your containers from the curb.
Items Not Accepted
Athens Services will NOT pick up E-Waste (Electronic Waste) & Household Hazardous Waste.
Once a year, Athens Services hosts an annual community-wide residential trash clean up drive "Big Spring Clean-Up" to dispose of unusual large items, such as couches, toilets, and refrigerators, that cannot be picked up by Athens Services' weekly waste pick up.
The Big Spring Clean-Up for 2017 took place in April. Contact Athens Services for dates for 2018.
Christmas Tree Recycling
TREES are 100% recyclable! Athens Services collects holiday trees on your normal pickup days from the day after Christmas through the second week of January each year. Trees are delivered to various landfills to be used as mulch or cover material.
Tips to ensure collection of your Christmas tree:
Remove stands, ornaments, lights and tinsel. Place Christmas trees next to your regular trash containers. Trees over 6 feet in length must be cut in half. Trees with flocking or fire retardants ARE acceptable.
- AB 341 requires all businesses and apartments units with 5 or more units to implement a recycling program.
- AB 1826 requires all businesses and multifamily complexes to recycle their organic waste.
