Dog Licensing





California State Law and City of South El Monte Municipal Code requires that all dogs over the age of four (4) months be vaccinated and licensed as a rabies control measure. Dog owners who fail to comply are subject to penalties.

Funds received from dog licensing fees enable the City to pay for quality animal care and control services provided by SEAACA (South East Area Animal Control Authority).

Licensing Benefits to Dog Owners 

Make sure your dog has its current license attached to its collar is your best insurance of having your pet returned to you in case he or she becomes lost or gets out of your yard. Even if your dog is microchipped, a license tag is immediately visible and doesn't require scanning device to read it, like a microchip does. 

A license also ensures that dogs are vaccinated against rabies, a fatal disease to humans and animals.

Licensing Fees

All dog licensing are valid for one year  

Dog license Fee: $30 unaltered/$15 sterilized (spayed/neutered
Senior Discount: $15 unaltered/$7.50 sterilized (spayed/neutered)


*Sterilized (spay/neutered) Discount:  Must provide original Certificate of Sterility to obtain discount.
*Senior Discount: Seniors who are 60+, must provide proof of age to obtain discount.

Penalties:
$10 per dog / $5 per dog (Seniors) 



Obtaining a Dog License 

1.) Mail a copy of your Rabies vaccination, Certificate of Sterility  of the dog and ID of the resident if  he/she is of senior age (if applicable) your payment directly to SEAACA in check, cashier check, or money order payable to SEAACA.

Or

2.) Bring in a copy of your Rabies vaccination, Certificate of Sterility of the dog and ID of the resident if he/she is of senior age (if applicable) your payment to City Hall in cash, credit, check, cashier's check, or money  order payable to SEAACA and the City will provide SEAACA your information who will then process your application.  

Resident will be notified by SEAACA if any application discrepancies are found which affect the total amount due to SEAACA. Once at SEAACA, it may take 2-3 weeks for resident to receive their Dog License.





Licensing Renewals: 

1.) Mail your payment directly to SEAACA in check, cashier's check, or money order payable to SEAACA.

Or

2.) Bring your payment to the City in cash, credit, check, cashier's check, or money order and the City will provide SEAACA your renewal who will then process the renewals. 

Once at SEAACA, it may take 2-3 weeks for resident to renew license.

Please note:
If residents have lost their tag and need a new one, they will need to pay $3.00 to be issued a new one.
