The Senior Services Division provides community based senior programs to enhance the quality of life, independence, and well being of South El Monte citizens age 55 and older. These services include, but are not limited to, nutrition programs, transportation, educational classes, health screenings, recreation programs, special events, excursions, and volunteer opportunities.

 

The Senior Services Division is housed at the South El Monte Senior Center, which is a multipurpose center and a central access point for information and services to assist older adults (55+) in the community. The Senior Center is open to anyone 55 years of age or older; however certain activities and services have age restrictions.

 

In addition to the services and programs offered at the Senior Center, seniors will enjoy the amenities it offers such as a fitness room, library room, pool room, various recreation rooms, and  large dining hall. 





NUTRITIONAL PROGRAMS  


Congregated Meals

The Senior Services Division serves well balanced meals to seniors 60+, Monday through Friday (except major holidays), at 11:30 a.m., in the Senior Center’s dining hall. Special lunch events are often conducted in conjunction with holidays.

 

No pre-registration is necessary. Meals are served on a first come, first serve basis.

 

The suggested donation for seniors is $2.25 and $5.00 for non-seniors.
 



Home Delivered Meals

The Senior Home Delivered Meal Program is available for home bound seniors age 60+, living in the City of South El Monte. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday (except major holidays), between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Reservations are required. The suggested donation is $2.25 per meal. TRANSPORTATION SERVICES


The Community Services Department offers transportation services to residents who are 60+ years of age or disabled (any age), Monday through Friday (except major holidays), from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  This service transports participants throughout South El Monte and up to 15 miles outside the City for trips to the bank, medical appointments, nutrition sites and shopping. Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance with the transportation dispatcher or assistant. To register for this service or for additional information please call (626) 448-0131.

Excursions

The Senior Services Division offers a wide of day excursions, for seniors 60+. Plays, musicals, boat cruises, baseball games, museums and festivals are just a few of the trips that have been planned.

Weekly Movie Flicks

Come and watch some great movies on the big screen inside the Senior Center’s dining hall on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m.

 

Bingo

Bingo is one of the Senior Center’s most popular activities. Cash prizes are awarded to winners 

      • Super Bingo is played every Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. 
      • Bilingual Bingo is played on the third Friday of the month at 1:00 p.m.

Senior Citizen Clubs

Senior Citizen clubs are a great way for seniors to stay active, socialize, and make friends. These clubs host dances, excursions, and other fun recreational activities. The Senior Center serves as a meeting place for the following clubs:

 

 

      • 3L Club 
Meets on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of the month at 1:00 p.m. 
      • Club Latino de Sur El Monte
Meets on the 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month at 1:00 p.m.
      • The Lovely Ladies in Red Hats       
Meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 9:30 a.m.
   

 

Senior Market Day

On the first Thursday of the month from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., a Senior Market is held outside of the Senior Center.  Seniors and the public have the opportunity to purchase goods from a variety of vendors.

 

Congresswoman Linda Sanchez Community Office Hours 

On the 2nd Wednesday of every month, representatives from the Office of Congresswoman Linda Sanchez provide free assistance on the following services: Social Security, Medicare, Passport, VA Benefits, Immigration, US Post Office, Housing, Healthcare, and Internship Information to the public. Hair Cut Services

The last Monday of every month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., hair cut services are provided to seniors for a nominal fee.
